After a six month design competition, attracting over 20 entries in the first stage, four teams were shortlisted with Francis-Jones Moreham Thorp (fjmt) winning the design competition for the City of Casey Cultural Precinct.

WT ’s Melbourne office was involved with the design competition providing cost advice to the City of Casey and provided full quantity surveying services through the preliminary design and design development, full tender and post contract administration services through to final account.

The precinct, at the intersection of Princess Highway, Magid Drive and Patrick Northeast Drive in Narre Warren, includes an 800 seat regional theatre, multipurpose exhibition space, regional art gallery, new community library, council office accommodation (approx. 8,700 m²), council service area, cafe, car parking and a 5,000 m² community plaza.

The floor area totals approximately 22,000 m² and covers four levels including one basement level. An intricate glulam timber gridshell of 155 cubic metres crafted from birch and spruce provides a striking architectural feature.
