Australian Embassy, Jakarta

WT provided full cost management services to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for the construction of the new Australian embassy in Jakarta.

WT delivered Asset & Facilities Management Services to develop a full lifecycle and operational cost model for the Embassy to ensure the future viability of this key overseas asset, modelling over 27,000 individual assets to achieve this.

Located on a four hectare site in central Jakarta, the new embassy provides office, residential and recreational accommodation for a number of Australian government departments including Foreign Affair, Federal Police, Austrade, Customs and the Attorney General.

The complex includes a 19,000 m² chancery comprising office and meeting areas, a five bedroom Executive Residence, 32 four bedroom residences and extensive recreational facilities including clubroom, swimming pool, two tennis courts and multi-purpose sports court. Services areas for staff are also included in the design incorporating medical centre, emergency accommodation units and community liaison facilities.

The exterior of the facility is clad with varying materials; each with a different metallic surface representing Australia’s mineral wealth – zinc, copper, brass, steel, aluminium.

A key consideration in the design of the new complex was energy conservation and environmentally sustainable design.  Active and passive measures were employed to meet energy conservation targets including water harvesting and green roof technology.
